Water Rocket Competition

On Friday, November 20th, 2009.

Madania Middle School held Water Rocket Competitionn for middle school students around Jabodetabek. It was interesting for the students. In the competition they learn to predict the appropriate air pressure, amount of wateer, position, wind direction, and the weight of the rocket to achieve the right target and length. Well done guys!

the climate change project

Thanks to Madania-Middle School Students

I asked my students to joined the climate change project undirectly. This is also still related to the weather and climate topic. Others made their summary and opinion about the impact of climate change into power point slide supported by Microsoft. Here are few of the projects.

This is one of my students have tried to do with their Social Studies Project. The topic is actually about weather and climate; what are the elements of weather, how to measure weather, the climate zone in the world. But the goal setting for the topic is to find out how far the students understood about identifying the impact of weather and climate change to living things especially to man kind.

It was amazing reading their opinions in the written test. They can produce at least 10 lines about how to save the earth from global warming and how to overcome the matter. This is what the students need, not only memorizing the facts about geography. It is important to know the elements and subject material. But the most important thing is how the students could apply their knowledge to their society and environment.

This activity give the students chance to be the subject of the learning process. It is the students who are having the learning proces, searching the information and try to rearrange what they knew into a new media. They are having a creation of showing their creativity.

After 2 years, i want to try to write again. I just want to have a media to share what i've experienced. I am a teacher in Madania now. Finally. Here I am, trying to write. But it seems so difficult.

Welcome new school.

Mostly, we can never always get what we want in live. Sometimes what we have planned for our life does not really goes well, but as a faithful human we should always have positive thingking to every thing happened and do the best to what we have.

And here I am as a social studies teacher. I never want to teach social studies subject. But when I got the opportunity to be a teacher in Madania Progressive Indonesian school, I have to teach social subject. My God, in what universe I capable of transferring social knowledge to students. Well, once again I thought maybe God gave me another opportunity to upgrade my self. Then I decided, why not.

After 5 months, I found it is difficult teaching Social Studies, especially in this conceptual age. Where the students are platinum students who are taught to play their critical and creative thinking in studying and gaining new knowledge. It is very chalenging. I do not really know why Madania considered to finally accept me, but since I have taken the liberty to joined the Microsoft Teachers Forum (Partners in Learning) then I think that is my precious power to be used in combining learning methods while learning with my students in the class.

I also have been surfing on the internet searching social studies materials in English and based on Depdiknas curriculum. God, it is.... And once again, that the most interesting one. So now I am using blog, as everybody else in the universe, to share their fascinating experience within the class to world classes. But mostly, this blog will be about my students' works. What they have understood about social studies materials in their daily life.
