Last Friday, July 30th 2010, Madania grade 8 students joined a competition hosted by Bakosurtanal (Badan Koordinasi Survey dan Pemetaan Nasional ) in Balai Kartini. The competition was Lomba C3KaT (Cerdas Cermat Cepat Kreatif Tepat) Geospasial in Student Day of the 5th IGTE (Indonesian Geo-Information Technology Exhibition) 2010. This was about understanding how to read maps, knowing places and Geography itself. The theme of the activity was Geospatial… Rock On! The team members were Bramantha Jiwandaru (8D), Jonathan Kennard (8D) and M. Afif Rahardian (8R)
They named our team GeoMad and Alhamdulillah, Geomad won the competition as the first winner of twenty three participants from around 18 schools in Jabodetabek.
The competition consisted of three rounds; Ngeriung, Berlaga and Bergaya. There were three parts of each round. In the first round, they had to answer 20 questions, 10 questions were answered by choice and the rest by short answer. Some of the questions were; what country that has the same flag color with Indonesia? (Monaco) and what is the name of traditional house in Papua? (Honai). Where can you find Loncat Batu tradition? (Kepulauan Nias). Ngeriung round is the elimination round. They must achieve the score not less than 6 to be in the second round. In the second round Berlaga, there were 16 teams left. The team had to do three activities; completing puzzle of picture of islands, making a sketch of map using scale and dressing a model like a scout in UP movie. In this round, MadGeo got the perfect score of 100 so they could be in the final round Bergaya. There were four teams left in Bergaya; two schools of BPK Penabur Jakarta, one school of Islamic Middle school in Jakarta and Madania. Sitting as the leader of the team was Jonathan Kennard. In this round the team had to answer the questions as fast as they can. There was not reduced score for the wrong answer and they could get score from other team’s questions. There were about 20 questions like; what was the imaginary line that separates the Asian and Australian fauna? What was the imaginary line that shows the land height? It was quite astonishing how each team tried to rise their score. Madania almost lost the score because we got the flute for the bell while the others were maracas, mini tambourine and triangle. After one of the parents suggested the committee that the different bell was not fair enough for each team, Madania achieved back their score. The final score was 150 for Madania and 140 for BPK Penabur Jakarta and the other two was 100 and 80.
Thank you for all the support that the parents gave to Madania team in Lomba C3Kat Geospasial. They helped the students a lot preparing for the competition.
